Rather Than Confront Violent Thugs, Tim Walz Let Minneapolis Burn & People Suffer

America’s most radical governor has no spine to stand up to the Left’s chaos, and everyday people pay the price

For 13 days in summer 2020, Minneapolis burned. And Tim Walz, the one man who could’ve stopped the violence, chose to let families and small businesses take the brunt of the Left’s brutal riots.

Black Lives Matter butchers and masked Antifa thugs used the death of fentanyl addict George Floyd to loot, pillage, and demand Minneapolis defang and defund its police, even as they caused at least $500 million in property damage—including burning down a police precinct—and murdered at least 3 people. Walz gladly complied.

Minneapolis’ Democrat Mayor, Jacob Frey, asked Walz in writing to send in 600 National Guard troops. Walz’s response: “I’ll consider it.” “He did not say yes,” Frey later said, “he said he would consider it.”

Yet as Governor, Walz was fully in control of the National Guard and could’ve ended the carnage any time he wished. Instead, he dithered until the day after Frey asked for help to provide crucial assistance and even then didn’t fully mobilize troops for 4 days after the police precinct was burned.

As one legislator in leading an investigation explained, “It was obvious to me that he [Walz] froze under pressure, under a calamity, as people’s properties were being burned down.”

Some 1,500 buildings were damaged or destroyed as a result, with one factory owner with 50 employees announcing he wouldn’t rebuild in Minneapolis because “they don’t care about my business.”

They didn’t protect our people. We were all on our own.

People make mistakes. But good leaders own up to them.

Not Walz. Instead, he blamed Frey and the city of Minneapolis for their “abject failure” to control the rioters Walz egged on and refused to stop once the madness broke out.

But police know that the real blame falls on Walz’s shoulders. During the riot, officers were ordered not to wear protective gear even as they were pelted with bottles, cement, and debris by state and city officials.

At a Minnesota Senate hearing, Minneapolis Police Sergeant Anna Hedberg testified that officers were abandoned by these Democrat leaders.

“To watch them go through that… was so heartbreaking,” she said, fighting back tears. “To know that they could have died because we were not allowed to respond the way that we have been trained to respond.

I heard the Governor say, ‘Give it up . . . Give up the precinct.’ I mean, that’s demoralizing for the whole state,” she added.

Nor does Walz seem to regret it, tweeting in May 2024 that “we honor him [George Floyd] and every person whose life has been cut short due to systems of racism and discrimination. My administration remains committed to deconstructing generations of systemic racism and inequities in our state.”

Now Tim Walz wants a promotion to the second-highest office in the land. Ask yourself: If he can’t be trusted to lead Minnesota through a crisis manufactured by the radical Left, can he be trusted to lead the nation?
