North Carolina Rejects Slavery Reparations. So Why Are Democrats Demanding Them?

The Civil War’s been paid for in blood and treasure, yet Democrats are desperate to pay off black voters ahead of the 2024 election.

A new poll by Steve Cortes’ League of American Workers shows that likely North Carolina voters reject reparations for slavery by 63 to 24 percent. In western North Carolina, the figures are even higher: 67 to 21 percent, including the “progressive” stronghold of Asheville.

Newsflash to the Left: Americans don’t want to relitigate the 160-year-old Civil War, much less spend trillions of dollars doing it. So why are Rep. Jamaal Bowman (NY) and other congressional Democrats so desperate to force it on the public?

Two words: Election year.

President Biden’s impressively bad performance in the Oval Office is sending millions of black voters reeling, dropping an astounding 24 percentage points from a 91-point advantage over President Trump in 2020 to a 57-point lead in 2024. That may still seem high, but it actually represents the collapse of the Obama coalition, when black voters were rock-solid behind the Democratic Party—the lowest net advantage for Democrats since Gallup starting polling these figures in 1999.

But it gets worse for Democrats. Liberal pollster Ruy Texeira—no fan of black voters’ exodus to Trump’s Republican Party—reveals that Biden’s approval is underwater by 7 points with black Americans who don’t have a college degree and a staggering 29 points underwater with black Americans between 18 and 49 years old.

Presented with this looming apocalypse, elected Democrats and their operatives have two choices: Drop the “woke” revolution against “white supremacist” America, or try to bribe black voters back into line. Guess which one they picked.

Don’t Pay the Dane-geld

Congressional Democrats’ Reparations NOW bill (H.R. 414) is estimated to cost all taxpayers $14 trillion. That’s more than twice the annual federal budget and equivalent to 41 percent of our $34 trillion national debt. When asked how we’ll pay for the greatest forced wealth redistribution plan in history, Bowman assured the public that we’ll “spen[d] it into existence.”

When COVID was destroying us, we invested in the American people in a way that kept the economy afloat. The government can invest the same way in reparations without raising taxes on anyone.

Where did the money come from? We spent it into existence.

In other words, we’ll further indebt future generations or just print the cash, driving up Bidenflation. Either way, it’s a lie to pretend that a $14 trillion program meant to punish white, Asian, and Hispanic taxpayers for sins they didn’t commit to bribe their black neighbors won’t impoverish them. It makes the entire country poorer while encouraging bitter hatred and greed.

But as we’ve previously reported, $14 trillion is just the start.

Some leftists estimate that the developed world owes $108 trillion to developing countries to “repair” the legacy of slavery. Recently, Barbados’ far-left prime minister demanded $4.6 trillion from the British in slavery reparations—a trifling $50 million per Barbadian. Will that be cash or credit?

Of course, no one devising these wild-eyed policies actually expects to receive $108 trillion ($8 trillion more than the entire global GDP in 2022) because they’ll settle for billions of dollars—and the right to regularly demand more. Leftists may loathe Donald Trump, but they read his book.

Like marauding Vikings, Bowman and his fellow elected Democrats think like thieves—only this money’s meant to pay off voters with the promise of more. Don’t give them a cent. For “if once you have paid the Dane-geld, you never get ride of the Dane.”
