Five Reasons Why Harris Blundered By Picking Walz
It is true that people vote for the top of the presidential ticket, not the underling. However, the selection process does inform the public about how the leader, Kamala Harris, makes important decisions.
Because the public knows little about Harris because of her entirely vacant record as vice president, her selection today was closely watched for such clues. Her pick of far-left Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota was a disaster for at least five major reasons:
1) Makes her look weak. Demonstrated she caved to the Hamas wing of party, of which she belongs, by shunning Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. Shapiro is smarter and more articulate than Walz. Did she balk because she knew Shapiro would overshadow her intellectually?
2) Makes her look stupid. It was a strategically vapid choice. Walz brings no swing states, or ideological balance. He presided over the burning of Minneapolis, where she supported the rioters, along with a full portfolio of Marxist-leaning views and policies. How will she moderate her far-left record?
3) Makes her look indecisive. She only made her pick the morning of her first rally after days of indecision. Because of this, there was no announcement video or rollout. GOP spent the morning defining Walz before stunned Democrats had put out any messaging of their own.
4) Makes her look unorganized. She never should have scheduled her first endorsement rally in the home state of one of the contenders. Now, the first rally to introduce Walz to the public will occur tonight (Tuesday) in Philadelphia. That will only serve to underscore her snub of Josh Shapiro in front of his state. Big mistake.
5) Blunts her fake momentum. Her whole campaign is built on ducking substance and allowing the media to carry her water. The selection of Shapiro was expected and anticipated by the media and would have been promoted as a continuance of her momentum of the last several weeks. The Walz pick throws a Minneapolis-like Molotov cocktail into that momentum. It will take the stunned media at least a day or two to get fully back onboard shilling for the Democrat ticket.
Kamala Harris is no Barack Obama. She doesn’t have the inherent political skills to turn any situation into a positive result. Her path to victory is heavily reliant on creating a bandwagon effect of public support and avoidance of discussing her record as vice president and unpopular far-left policies.
Shapiro would have given her space to stretch her momentum. The Walz pick might halt it completely and bring her down to earth, a reality-based place that is deadly to her hopes of hiding her vacant candidacy from the American people.
