What Caused Tim Walz’s Flip-Flop on Gun Rights?
Tim Walz has a long record of supporting Second Amendment rights, but that quickly shifted once he realized his political future depended on aligning with the authoritarian Left.
Tim Walz, once a staunch advocate for the Second Amendment, has undergone a troubling transformation in pursuit of political longevity. He now bends the knee to the anti-gun lobby so he can keep his endorsement from the far-left establishment.
During his tenure in Congress, Walz co-chaired the Bipartisan Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, signed a brief supporting handgun ownership in the landmark Heller Supreme Court decision, backed the Veterans Second Amendment Protection Act, and was endorsed by the National Rifle Association (NRA). These actions set him apart from most of his Democratic colleagues and made him a target for the Left, which has been pushing hard towards strict gun control for years.
It is no surprise that Walz’s stance began to shift as he set his sights on the governorship of Minnesota in 2017. The "new" Walz, who presumably emerged under the backing of leftist handlers, seems to bear little resemblance to the man who once championed the rights of gun owners.
This new iteration of Walz advocates for some of the most extreme forms of gun control in America and raises the inevitable question: What happened behind the closed doors of Minnesota's Democratic Party?
While the inner workings of the party are unknown, it is reasonable to suspect that the party’s leadership presented Walz with a stark choice: align with their agenda or face political exile.
This scenario underscores the party's unwillingness to entertain any gun control measures that respect constitutional rights. For the party, it seems compromise is a no-go.
The objective is not regulation but the destruction of firearm ownership.
Walz claims he had a “growing unease” with the NRA and was worried about the frequency of mass shooting—but the real reason is staying “in” with the vicious Left, which is bent on abolishing the Second Amendment.
Spineless Walz now supports assault weapon bans, red flag laws, universal background checks, bump stock bans, binary trigger bans, and a litany of other initiatives that render Americans defenseless.
Coupled with Vice President Kamala Harris—whose hostility towards the Second Amendment surpasses even that of President Joe Biden, the most anti-gun president in history—Walz appears poised to do everything within his power to trample the rights of Americans.

Walzing with Tyranny
Walz likes to portray himself as a steadfast gun owner and defender of the Second Amendment, but his actions tell a different story. Despite his surprisingly pro-Second Amendment congressional record, he can no longer hide the fact that he is pushing policies that threaten to undermine American freedoms.
In 2023, Walz pressured the Minnesota legislature to enact universal background checks and red flag laws—extreme forms of gun control that allow the government to create a database of firearms and confiscate said firearms without reason.
In 2024, he signed the measures into law.
Walls is also a steadfast supporter of banning so-called “assault weapons” that millions of Americans lawfully use every day, but like many Democrats he’s not too sure what that means. In August, Walz claimed he carried an “assault weapon” or “weapon of war” while serving in the National Guard, but he never carried a weapon in combat or went into combat at all. Even worse, the military doesn’t carry civilian AR-15s; they use M16 or M4 rifles.
Walz is against bump stocks, binary triggers, silencers, and concealed carry reciprocity between states. And if you question him on his beliefs, he’ll be sure to tell you that you are an “extremist” for defending the Constitution.
“I understand our rights as Americans to do these things. But I refuse to allow extremists to define what responsible gun ownership looks like and to make this about the Second Amendment,” Walz said.
Walz will scapegoat “safety” and “gun violence” prevention as long as it takes to restrict the Second Amendment rights of Americans. Based on the man we saw in congress 18 years ago, he is sadly doing it all for political gain.

Calling All Patriots
Gun owners, now is the time to unite against the far-left agenda being disguised as common-sense measures. Walz and Harris have openly revealed their dangerous plan to gradually strip Americans of their firearms—But gun owners still have a chance to fight back.

"If we could convert 2 percent of all licensed hunters and get them to vote, the GOP would win in a landslide," said Baker Leavitt, an adviser to Vote4America, on the District of Conservation podcast.
It’s not too late to stop the Left from dismantling the Second Amendment, but after November 5, it might be.
