Josh Stein Represents the Party of Unlimited At-Home Abortions

Today’s Democratic Party has moved far away from Bill Clinton’s view of “safe and legal, but rare.” Voters have not.

Mifepristone, also known as the “abortion pill,” stops the supply of blood and nutrients to the uterus that are necessary to keep the developing baby alive. A second pill called misoprostol is then given which induces labor, expelling the baby. Women will experience miscarriage-like symptoms with bleeding, pain and cramping. Nausea, vomiting, and other medical complications are also common. These chemical abortions have a 20 percent complication rate compared to 5.6 percent with a surgical abortion. In some cases, taking the abortion pill could endanger a woman’s life.

At 5 weeks of pregnancy, when most women realize they are pregnant, the baby is forming its neural tube that includes the brain and spinal cord. The heart begins to beat at 110 beats per minute. Babies begin to form pain receptors at 7 weeks of gestation. By week 8, the baby has eyes, ears, hands and feet, and the umbilical cord is fully developed and is transporting oxygen and blood to the baby.

Democrats like North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein—who is also running for Governor—are fighting to permit these dangerous abortion pills to be dispensed through the mail so women can “expel” their baby at home. Stein wants women to be able to walk to their mailbox to get the abortion pill with no requirement to even set foot in a doctor’s office.

If a woman is not required to been seen in person by a physician prior to taking this chemical abortion pill, how will the doctor know the gestational age of the baby? A woman could believe her baby is 8 weeks when he or she is actually 11 weeks along.

By 11 weeks, a baby’s bones are hardening and facial features are present. Josh Stein and other pro-abortion Democrats are advocating for this baby to be killed at home as the woman flushes her baby down a toilet. One online abortion telehealth service instructs women that they may wish to “bury the remains.” Not only could the abortion pill cause dangerous physical problems for the mother, but the mental trauma may last a lifetime.

Democrats Want You to Shout Your Abortion

In 1993, President Bill Clinton said, “Our vision should be of an America where abortion is safe and legal, but rare.” Now in 2024, the Democrat narrative is that abortion should be celebrated and “shouted.” Activists advocate for women to speak up to tell the world how proud they are that they had an abortion through a “shout your abortion” campaign.

Today’s Democrats are unabashed extremists on abortion. In 2019, Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran (D) proposed a bill that would allow abortion up until the moment of birth. The Governor at the time, Democrat Ralph Northam, said this regarding Tran’s proposed abortion bill: “if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

Former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D), who is also a pediatric neurologist, was advocating for the mother and doctor to decide whether the baby would live or die after it was born. Pure evil!

Legal Challenges at the Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court will be deciding two similar cases this summer pertaining to mifepristone. When the drug was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000, it was under the condition that it be administered by or in the presence of a qualified physician within the first seven weeks of pregnancy.

In 2016, the FDA increased the usage up to 10 weeks of gestation and permitted other medical providers other than medical doctors to dispense the abortion drugs.

In 2021, the FDA then determined that the in-person dispensing requirement was no longer necessary, permitting women to swallow a mail-ordered pill at home to kill their babies.

In the case of Food and Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, a group of physicians are challenging the FDA’s approval changes of the abortion drug mifepristone and the generic version. The physicians believe the relaxation of the in-person requirements and other decisions made by the FDA were arbitrary and capricious and not based on supported scientific studies. It is further alleged that the changes the FDA made in 2016 and 2021 violated the Administrative Procedures Act (APA).

The Heritage Foundation offers more insight into the legalese of the Supreme Court cases including issues of standing and further details of what is required under the APA.

These cases highlight the overreach and power of regulatory agencies run by unelected bureaucrats to control life-altering decisions.

A 2021 study looking at reported adverse events from the use of mifepristone sounded the alarm on the dangers of the drug. The researchers called for the requirement of a pre-abortion ultrasound prior to the use of the drug to rule out a patient having an ectopic pregnancy (when an embryo implants outside the uterus). Due to a rise in the use of intrauterine devices there has been a significant increase in ectopic pregnancies.

If a woman discovers she is pregnant and takes the abortion pill, it won’t work for an ectopic pregnancy. The embryo will continue to grow outside the uterus causing a life-threatening situation for the mother. An ultrasound could be lifesaving because it would discover an ectopic pregnancy.

Democrats are extreme on the topic of abortion and want no limits, even if those limits would be lifesaving for the mother. The party of Bill Clinton is now the party of far-left extremists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC)—and Josh Stein.
